George Russell To Replace Lewis Hamilton At Sakhir GP
Williams driver George Russell will be racing for Mercedes in place of Lewis Hamilton whilst he will be replaced by Jack Aitken at the Sakhir Grand Prix this weekend.
Hamilton was ruled out of the second race in Bahrain after testing positive for coronavirus, the symptoms of which he had been showing after winning the Bahrain GP over the weekend.
"Nobody can replace this guy, but I'll give my all for the team in his absence from the moment I step in the car. Get well soon Lewis," tweeted the British-born driver.
Soon after Hamilton's health condition was diagnosed to be positive for coronavirus, Mercedes reportedly reached out to Williams if Russell will be available to replace the seven-time champions at Sakhir GP.
"I see this as a great chance to learn from the best outfit on the grid right now," said George in a statement. "And to come back as an improved driver, with even more energy and experience to help Williams further up the grid. A big thank you also to Mercedes for putting their father in me."
The 22-year-old who is yet to score points in F1 will team up with Valterri Bottas, who finished the season as the second runner-up for the World Championship title.
