George Russell Satisfied With Performance At Sakhir Grand Prix
George Russell found a little satisfaction with his debut race at Sakhir Grand Prix over the weekend which he described as "a little success" and hopes that would land him a permanent role with Mercedes from where he was loaned to Williams.
The 22-year-old delivered a stunning performance for Mercedes as a stand-in Lewis Hamilton, who was tested positive for coronavirus symptoms. He qualified for the final race in P2, narrowly losing the pole position to Valterri Bottas by just 0.03s.
It was all eye on Russel at the final but fell short of expectations over having a punctured tire just as his teammate Bottas. However, he managed to finish ninth to earn his first F1 career points. Racing Points' Sergio Perez emerged as the winner for his first F1 race victory.
Speaking to Sky Sports, the British-Swiss revealed how incredibly happy his parents were watching him make his debut for such a team Mercedes that has won seven consecutive F1 world championship title.
"My mum couldn't speak because I think she was probably in tears," he revealed. "So she put my dad on the phone and he was just like, you've got so much to be proud of, that was yours today."
Meanwhile, Mercedes boss Wolff Toto was just as proud of Russell as his parents and described his driving skills as like that of a champion. The seven-time champion boss also regarded Russell as a new born star who has the sky as his limit.
