Fifa Awards: Robert Lewandowski Wins Best Player As Jurgen Klopp Takes Best Manager
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has added an accolade to his name for having won the Fifa Award for the best manager, while Bayern Munich sensation Robert Lewandowski was voted the best player of the year.
Klopp, who won the Premier League with Liverpool last term, contended against Marcelo Bielsa (Leeds United) and Hansi Flick (Bayern Munich) to emerge as the winner of the prize. He led his team to end Liverpool's 30-year-long title drought.
In the player's category, Lewandowski won the coveted prize in a contest with Barcelona forward Lionel Messi and Juventus star striker Cristiano Ronaldo. The Argentine forward, Messi, won the prize last year and followed up with his sixth Ballon d'Or.
The Polish striker, 32, wrapped up last season as the highest goalscoring player in the Bundesliga with 55 goals in 46 appearances for the Germans, equalling the previous record set by Gerd Muller for most goals in a single season.
He finished the season by not only winning the league title for the sixth consecutive time with the club he joined from Borussia Dortmund in 2014 but also led the side to win the Champions League snapping their seven years drought.
