EFL Carabao Cup: Arsenal Take Humble Quarter-final Exit
Arsenal's woes continued with a Carabao Cup semi-final exit elimination in a 4-1 loss to Manchester City that was kicked off with a three-minute early goal from Gabriel jesus' header.
Citizens were ruthless against the Mikel Arteta led side that has been struggling to find its winning form in the Premier League as their winless run reaches seven consecutive league games in a row.
Zinchenko provided the assist that culminated in the opening goal with a cross that found Gabriel for a header from close range. Alexander Lacazzette later leveled the scoring for Arsenal heading home Gabriel Martinelli's cross.
Riyad Mahrez doubled the lead from free-kick after Alex Runarsson saved an attempt from Gabriel, then Fernandinho made it a third and Aymeric Lapote headed in Phil Foden's cross home extending lead to four.
The Pep Guardiola side have now reached the semi-final of the competition for the fourth time in a row whilst Arsenal continued to struggle with regaining their rhythm.
Citizens' forward Raheem Sterling was on the bench throughout the game and Arsenal's Nicolas Pepe came in as sub for Martinelli. By the way, Arteta has often urged Pepe to be more creative and inspiring of the team for him to get more starting as he should.
Despite leading City to the EFL Cup Last 8, Guardiola has a warning for Arsenal management over rushing to make a decision that might lead to Arteta tell the BBC during an interview: "They will do a huge, big mistake if they...I'm pretty sure they are going to trust him."
