Disney Will Not Allow Johnny Depp To Reprise Role In Pirates of the Caribbean
Johnny Depp will not be reprising his role in Pirates of the Caribbean over fears of the impact his appearance might have on families. The actors' woes resulted from losing the libel case over an allegation of physical assault on his wife by a British media outlet which led to him being asked to step down from his role as Gelert Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts 3.
Johnny, however, cash in on exiting Fantastic Beats 3 and was meant to make a cameo in the next installment of Pirates of the Caribbean, but Disney ruled him out of the franchise despite an effort by the film producer Jerry Bruckheimer to recast him as Captain Jack Sparrow before stepping down. The studios would not bulge over that regardless as they just wanted him out.
The Hollywood Reporters revealed that the studio already distanced itself from the actor long before the trial. The source went further that the ties between Disney and Johnny had been severe for a while but the fallout between them was not made public.
Amongst films that the actor has starred in, Pirates of the Caribbean was the film that shot him to the limelight and gained an Academy Award nomination for his lead role which he reprised through four entries.
Pirates of the Caribbean made a remarkably successful debut racking in $423.32million in the domestic market and closed globally crossing the billion-dollar benchmark at $1.066b. Following in the stead of the first prequel was the fourth entry On The Stranger Tides which also crossed the benchmark at $1.045.7b. All sequels of the franchise have been successful with none performing lesser than $654.3M.
