Diego Costa Terminates Contract With Atletico Madrid

Former Chelsea player Diego Costa has chosen to opt-out of his contract with Atletic Madrid, which they obliged to despite having six months remaining in his contract.

Costa has been left frustrated with his manager, Diego Simeone, having struggled with getting game-time and he has only managed to make seven league appearances out of which three were as a substitute.

There are speculations that the player might be set for a move to the Premier League with Arsenal and Tottenham amongst clubs that might be interested. However, he had a successful spell at Chelsea where he won two league titles and one EFL Cup.

Confirming the contract termination, the Spaniards revealed in a statement that the decision was based on the player's "personal reasons" and they would like to thank him "for his dedication during these years and wishes him well in the next stage of his professional career."

Costa came in as a sub for Luiz Suarez late into Atletico's 2-0 away victory against Real Sociedad last weekend, and they are atop in La Liga with 32 points trailed by Real Madrid on equal points.
