Cristiano Ronaldo Beats Lionel Messi To Win An Award

Cristiano Ronaldo has wrapped up the year with a prestigious award for which he was pitched against Lionel Messi before emerging as the winner of the prize. The Portuguese forward was voted as the winner of the Golden Foot Award over the Argentine who contested with him for the prize.

Ronaldo had a sensational season last term during which scored 44 goals to be the Italia Serie A highest goalscorer leading Juventus to win the league title. On the contrary, Messi had a tough season at Barcelona that lost the league title contest to Real Madrid and only scored 26 goals.

"I am honored to win the Golden foot award and to be immortalized and the Champion Promenade in Monaco," Ronaldo wrote in an Instagram post. "Together with some of the greatest football legends of all time!"

The award is such that can only be won once in a player's career and only those that are above 28 years of age can be shortlisted for the prize. Ronaldo is the fourth player ever to receive the prize since its establishment in 2003.
