Champions League: Ole Gunnar Solkjaer Not Pleased With RB Leipzig Ousting Manchester United
Manchester United are out of the Champions League after losing to RB Leipzig in a defeat which the team boss Ole Gunnar Solkjaer blamed the referee for overlooking a foul on Alex Telles and believed is men are not being "streetwise" enough against their opponents.
RB Leipzig qualified for the knockout stages of the Champions League after ousting Manchester United out in a 3-2 win to emerge as the Group H leaders with 12 points.
United had trailed the 3-0 from the first half before making an effort to stage a comeback by scoring two goals that would amount to nothing as the Germans held on to the lead until the game was over.
It took the hosts 13 minutes for the Germans to take a comfortable with two goals coming from Angelino and Amadou Haidara respectively. Justin Kluivert later made it a third after the break before Marcus Rashford converted a penalty to get one in for United. Two minutes later,, Ibrahima Konate's defensive error resulted in an own goal for United
Already under pressure, Solksjaer, found the referee to be criticized over his decision not ruling out the second goal over Alex Telles being pushed. He also admitted to the loss was a letdown for their fans who had expected the team to make it to the knockout stages.
"We did everything we normally do in preparation," said Solkajaer afterward. "We know that everyone wants to be up for a game like this, everyone's ready for a game like this."
"Maybe the referee should have down something for the second one when Alex gets pushed in the back, maybe we were not streetwise enough. Maybe he should have dropped and fallen on the floor because he gets pushed in the back."
Exiting the competition at group stages is not what would have been expected of Manchester United, nevertheless, they were drawn against difficult teams, and obviously, only two will make it past the stage. However, they will join the Europa League for the round of Last 32.
