"This tournament is really special for me because my grandma was also Austrian, so I have Austrain blood," said Andrey on leveling with Novak Djokovic on titles won so far this season.

The 23-year-old was faced with a hard-fought match against Dominic Thiem in the quarter-final, and survived a scare in the opening set after outlasting the Austrian-native player in a tie-break to win the set and breezed through the decider.

Winning Vienna Open title guaranteed the champion, Andrey, his first-ever qualification to Nitto ATP Finals which be held between 15-22 November at the O2 Arena in London .

"There are still so many things I need to improve and it's going to be a good challenge for me to see what exactly I need to improve to be at that level, to be able to compete against the top eight players."
