Premier League: Liverpool Close In On Table Lead After Beating Leicester City
Liverpool revamped chase to take table lead by denying Leicester City the maximum points needed to take top spot in a 3-0 win at Anfield. Reds leapfrogged to the second position leveling on points with the leaders, Tottenham.
The defending champions extended their unbeaten home game run to a new club record feat of 68, upsetting their previous best which was set between 1978 and 1981.
Reds moved in the lead from Jonny Evan's own goal and Diogo Jota doubled that by heading home Andrew Robertson's cross. Sadio Mane came close to top up the scoring after the break but attempted a shot at the target rather than setting up Jota with a pass for a finish from close range.
Roberto Firminio had twice had his goal attempts stopped on the touchline by Marc Albrighton before he headed home from James Milner's cross and Reds secured a comfortable lead with four minutes remaining to play.
