Premier League: Bruno Fernandes Leads Man. Utd To Claim First Home Victory
Manchester United managed to secure their first home game victory in a 1-0 win over West Bromwich which resulted from a twice-taken penalty by Bruno Fernandes.
The victory handed United the needed maximum points to climb up the table to ninth position, and to the frustration of Baggies they were denied a penalty after the VAR ruled that Fernandes did not commit an offense on his tackle for the ball with Conor Gallagher.
Baggies later handed United a penalty for a handball offense committed by Darnell Furlong and Fernandes' spot-kick was saved, but the referee ruled that it be retaken and the Portuguese forward converted it for the team's only goal of the match.
The visitors did challenge United's defense and made some attempts at the goal but goalkeeper David de Gea brilliantly saved the balls. Callum Robinson's shot from outside the box beat United's keeper but clipped the crossbar and bounced to safety.
United secured a back-to-back league game victory as Ole Gunnar Solksjaer's acceptance is gradually restored following calls for his replacement over the team's poor performance.
