Pep Guardiola Offers Career Advice To Lionel Messi
Pep Guardiola has candid advice for Lionel Messi on his quest to leave Barcelona amidst interests from European top-flight clubs looking forward to securing his signature. Being a former manager of the club, Guardiola would suggest to him to end his career in Nou Camp.
Messi, at no time in his career, has played for any other clubs than Barcelona. Without a doubt, it has been a successful spell for him, having won six Ballon d'Or with the club. With one season left in his contract, he is considering leaving for a team outside of Spain.
"Messi is a Barcelona player. I said it a thousand times. As a fan, I want Leo to finish there," Guardiola suggested. "His contract finishes this year [season] and I don't know what will happen in his mind."
It is apparent, the club risks losing him since the team lost league title defense to their rivals Real Madrid and their subsequent from the Champions League enduring an 8-2 defeat to Bayern Munich in the semi-final.
Manchester City is one of the clubs linked to the 33-year-old alongside Paris Saint-Germain, they even approached him in the summer transfer window amidst rumors of his request to leave as a free agent, which was later infeasible because of his contract buyout clause that is still in effect.
"Right now Messi is a Barcelona player and the transfer market is in June and July," he continued. "We have incredible games and targets and things we would like to achieve. That is the only thing in our mind."
