Paris Masters: Daniil Medevdev Defeat Alexander Zevrev To Lift Title

Daniil Medvedev has claimed his third ATP Masters 1000 title and his first title this season in a stunning rally to outclass Alexander Zverev in three sets 5-7, 6-4, 6-1 in the final of the Paris Masters on Sunday.

Zverev was poised to come out as the title winner having started well from the opener and had led in the second set by 4-3 before the Russian rallied by winning eight in nine games to emerge as the champion.

"I am really happy. I don't know this after the match, but I am really happy to win matches," said Medvedev. "Before the tournament, I was not in my best form, playing not so bad with zero finals this year."

Medvedev breezed through the decider winning six in seven games against Zevrev. The third-seeded player, who was playing in his first final this season, saved six in seven breaks faced against the German in the decider to lift the trophy.

Meanwhile, Zevrev entered the final by defeating world number two Rafael Nadal in the semi-finals in the quest for his fourth ATP Masters 1000 title and his third major ATP Tour title this season. However, he could not match the aggressive play of the Russian in the rally at the final.

"He's a great player," Zverev commended Medvedev on the victory. "It's his first tournament win this season. I know his season wasn't easiest one, whereas I have to say my season actually [has been] going quite well."

Medvedev became the six Russian player to lift the ATP Masters 1000 title in Paris. By winning the tournament, he secured his qualification to the Nitto ATP Finals at the O2 Arena in London, happening through November 15-22.
