Fifa Suspends CAF President Ahmad Ahmad For Five Years
CAF President Ahmad Ahmad has been suspended for five years from all football-related activities for corrupt practices by the sport's world governing body, Fifa.
Ahmad Ahmad was guilty of gross misconduct in his position as the head of CAF by the Court of Arbitrary for Sport (CAS), amongst which was mismanagement of funds, involvement in the body's dealing with a sports equipment company, and using his position to finance a pilgrimage to Mecca.
In a statement released by the governing body, Ahmad "breached his duty of loyalty, offered gifts and other benefits, mismanaged funds and abused his position as the CAF President."
The 60-year-old who is vying for his second term in office he assumed since 2017, also bagged a $220,000 in fine for the offense committed and can appeal his suspension by the world governing body.
Amongst candidates contending against Ahmad in the race for the head of CAF next year is Augustin Senghor (Senegalese FF), Ahmad Yahya (Mauritania), Jacques Anouma (Ivory Coast), and Patrice Motsepe(South African billionaire)
