Champions League: Liverpool Retain Group Lead Despite Loss To Atalanta

Liverpool clean run has been dented by Atalanta which claimed a 2-0 victory at Anfield and narrowed the defending champions lead in Group D by one point over nearest team Ajax.

Jurgen Klopp whose men are playing without their key defensive players Virgin van Dijk who was ruled following an injury conceded two goals within four minutes upon their return from halftime break.

The Serie A side took the lead after an hour of play when Alejandro Gomez's cross found Josip llicic for the finish that beat Allison to the goal. Four minutes later, Robin Gosens added the second goal with an assist from Hanz Hateboer.

Meanwhile, Robin and Gomez had twice put Allison to the test early into the game before the combination of the pair on the attack paid off with an opener. Moreover, Liverpool's George Wijnaldum narrowly escaped conceding a spot-kick when he down llicic on a challenge for the ball in the box.

Atalanta paid the Premier League side back for the humiliating 5-0 home loss from their first group stage meeting early this month.
