ATP Finals: Novak Djokovic Beats Alexander Zverev To Reach Last Four

 


Novak Djokovic has advanced to the semi-finals of the Nitto ATP Finals having defeated German contender Alexander Zverev in straight sets 6-3 7-6(4). 

Zverev was out to claim the second set at 5-6 but Djokovic forced a tiebreak and progressed to wrapped the round winning two match points in a rally. The German double-faulted at 5-3 to hand the world number one his only break while the Serb saved all three breaks faced against Zverev.

"I felt great. In the first set, he had a couple of break-point chances," said Djokovic. "I managed to serve well in the important moments."

So far this season, Djokovic has won five ATP Tour titles and is now bidding for a record sixth title and will face Dominic Thiem in the Last Four. 

"I have tremendous respect for him, he's a great player with a huge serve," he added. "It's obviously not easy to return a 140mph first serve and sometimes you just have to block and hope that you can be in the exchanges in the rally."
