Football Icon Diego Maradona Has Died Aged 60

 


Argentina football icon, Diego Maradona, has passed away after suffering cardiac arrest at his residence. He was aged 60. 

Early this month, the deceased who was famous for leading his country to win the Fifa 1986 World Cup in Mexico and to finish as runners-up at the Fifa 1990 World Cup in Italy, had surgery for a blood clot in his brain and was believed to be medically fine and ok upon his discharge from the hospital. 

Maradona is believed to be one of the finest players ever in the history of football and has often compared with Brazilian legend Pele who many deemed to be the best of all-time.

"The Argentine Football Association, through its president Claudio Tapia expresses its deepest sorrow for the death of our legend, Diego Armando Maradona. You will always be in our hearts," the AFA tweeted in tribute to the deceased. 

During his professional football career that lasted for 21 years, Maradona won his only UEFA title with Napoli where he also won the Serie A twice (1986-87; 1989-90). He joined the Italian side from Barcelona, with which he won the three silverware excluding the Spanish La Liga. 

Boca Juniors, the Argentine side at which the deceased became famous and from which he joined Barcelona, wrote in a tweet "Eternal thanks, Ethernal Diego" in a tribute to the player.
