"We Played In Their Cards" Says Jurgen Klopp On Liverpool Shameful Loss To Aston Villa
Liverpool's league game unbeaten run was met with an unexpected 7-2 defeat against Aston Villa, a side that managed to escape relegation by just a point to finish above the redline last season.
Coming to the pitch on Sunday, hardly would anyone expect Liverpool to lose to Villa, even if there were any not by the margin witnessed during which the hosts' newly-signed striker Ollie Watkin scored a hat-trick and Manchester United's target Jack Grealish added a brace to the goalscoring streak.
However, Reds' manager Jurgen Klopp has a stance on how his men went down in such a disappointing manner that brought an end to their unbeaten run that had lasted through 44 league games.
"We played in their cards," said Klopp explaining what could have led to the loss, "For different reasons, Aston Villa forced all the mistakes we made."
Reds carelessly handed away three goals by deflections, one of which resulted in former Chelsea player Ross Barkley scoring on his debut for Villa. That not to mention the PL champions porous defense was another factor.
Klopp went further, "Obviously with the first goal, with the second as well, the third massively, the free-kick and all these kind of things, then the game has a specific direction."
Liverpool's Senegalese forward Sadio Mane did not make the line-up having tested positive for Covid-19, but his teammate Diogo Jota was on the pitch as a replacement. Mo Salah scored the two goals for the side and could not fire the team in a comeback considering that massive margin.
Admitting Villa were the better side when asked to give his opinion on the game, Klopp blasted his team: "For me, we put all of our rubbish things, mistakes, in one game."
