Premier League: Jannick Vestergaard Stops Chelsea From Beating Southampton


Jannick Vestergaard struck home an injury-time goal that canceled out Chelsea's lead and snatched a 3-3 draw for Southampton at Stanford Bridge. 

Blues were on the course to claim the maximum points from the home game that could have put them in the second on the table before Saints staged a second-half comeback to force a draw. 

Chelsea's newly signed player Timo Werner had put the side in a comfortable lead before Danny Ings led a comeback for Saints. The former RB Leipzig struck home the opening goal following a pass from Ben Chilwell and doubled the lead with a lob over onrushing McCarthy following a cross from Jorginho.

Danny Ings set Saints on the recovery path after the halftime break when he finished off a through pass from Che Adam followed by Adams' who equalized for Saints by lashing home Ings' past inside the box. 

Kai Havertz reclaimed the lead for Chelsea by tapping home an assist from Werner from close range. Jannick ruled out Chelsea's lead by slamming home a loose ball from inside the box following a free-kick.

The Frank Lampard led team has only lost a game so far this season, and likewise, Southampton who drew their third game against the London-based side. 

Timo, who was signed for $47.5m this summer, opened his Premier League game scoring record with a brace that brought his tally to three goals in five appearances
