Premier League: Crystal Palace Lose Big To Chelsea
Chelsea fired back from second consecutive disappointing league matches and thrashed Crystal Palace 4-0 at Stanford Bridge on their second home game into the season.
Palace worsens their defeat by handing their hosts two costly penalties over needless rough tackles in their box for Jorginho to convert giving Chelsea comfortable late into the game. All four goals came in after the break when Blues snatched control of the game after goalless halftime.
Newly-signed Ben Chilwell put Blues in the lead finishing off a diverted shot from Tammy Abraham who Azpilicueta found in the box with a cross. The £50m left-back lashed the ball home for the opener five minutes after the break.
The former Leicester City defender again set off the second goal with a cross that Kurt Zuoma headed into the net minutes after an hour of play. The situation soon escalated as Palace committed two penalties within four minutes, first was Mitchel's foul on Tammy and followed by Sakho diving into Kai Havertz.
The Brazilian player, Jorginho, was offered to take the shootouts and sent goalkeeper Vicente Guiata flying wide on both occasions as Chelsea moved up clear by 4-0 with 12 minutes remaining to play.
Blues who were eliminated from the EFL Cup in the Round Last 16 by Tottenham in a shootout after a 1-1 draw, have now moved up to the fourth position of the table.
It was the biggest league game win recorded by Frank Lampard-led side this season and the second after the team's 6-0 win against Barnsley in the third round of the EFL Cup.
