Portuguese Grand Prix: Lewis Hamilton Wins To Break Michael Schumacher's Record
Lewis Hamilton has clinched a new F1 world record of 92nd race win and overtook the previous set for most F1 race wins by Michael Schumacher after winning the Portuguese Grand Prix final on Sunday.
At the qualifying, the six-time champion pipped his teammate Valterri Bottas to clinch his ninth pole of the season. He lived up to the expectation of breaking Michael Schumacher's record by dominating the race to finish quickest ahead of Bottas, who finished behind him in second place.
"I didn't have a magic ball when I chose to come to this team and partner with great people," said Hamilton on reaching the historic 92nd race win on the F1 Portimao debut race.
Red Bull's Max Verstappen did not miss on podium appearance as he finished third ahead of Ferrari Charles Leclerc, who came fourth at the Algrave international circuit.
"Here I am and what I can tell you is I'm trying to make the most of it every single day. It's going to take some time to sink in," he added. "I really owe it all to these guys for their teamwork, continually innovating and pushing the barrier even higher every year."
Ferrari's exiting driver Sebastian Vettel improved on his performance in the final by finishing in the 10th position having started in P15 - he is due to join Aston Martin at the end of the season.
Hamilton extended his driver's standings dominance to 77 points clear of nearest rival, Bottas, on his title defense for a record-equalling seventh world championship title with Michael Schumacher.
