James Bond Actor Sean Connery Has Died, Aged 90
Sir Sean Connery, who was famous for his role as the 007 spy character in the James Bond franchise, has died at the age of 90, the actor's family confirmed. The deceased was confirmed to have passed away in his sleep in the Bahamas on Saturday, leaving behind his wife, Micheline, and their two sons, Jason and Stefan.
Sean made his debut as an actor in Walt Disney's Darby O'Gill and Little People in 1959 before having a breakthrough landing a role as the British secret agent. Accepting to play the 007 in Dr. No in 1962 made him the first to bring the character to the big screen.
Paying tribute to the late actor, the British Film Institute said in a statement, "We're deeply saddened to hear of the passing of iconic actor Sir Sean Connery, aged 90."
James Bond producers, Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, jointly paid tribute to the deceased in a statement, "We are devastated by the news of the passing of Sir Sean Connery. He was and shall always be remembered as the original James Bond whose indelible entrance into cinema history began when he announced those unforgettable words - "The name's Bond...James Bond."
The Oscar-winning actor went on to reprise the role in six subsequent installments, amongst which is From Russia With Love (1963), Goldfinger (1964), Thunderball (1965), You Only Live Twice (1967), Diamond Are Forever (1971), and Never Say Never Again (1983).
