"I'm Focused On Recovery" Says Virgil van Dijk On ACL Injury
Liverpool full-back Virgil van Dijk is due to undergo knee surgery following sustained an ACL injury during the side's 2-2 away draw at Everton on Saturday.
Toffees came back twice to leveled up with Liverpool during which the defender was tripped by Jordan Pickford while running in for an attack. He was later substituted with Joe Gomez.
"This afternoon, I met with a leading consultant to start the process of planning the finer details of rehabilitation following the incident yesterday," said the Belgian in a lengthy statement released via Twitter.
The tackled was deemed to have resulted in a penalty award for Liverpool which the referee did not. When the injury was scan after he was subbed, it was determined that he would need surgery to recover.
"I'm now fully focused on my recovery and will do everything I can to be back as quickly as possible," He continued. "I believe everything happens for a reason and it's important to try and keep level-headed whether going through the highs and the lows."
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp criticized the referee's decision not to award a penalty for his team for Pickford's rough tackle, and he believed the decision was wrong because he did not make an effort to verify.
