French Open: Simona Halep Knocked Out By Teenager

Top-seeded player Simona Halep met a sudden end at Garros Roland's fourth match against a Polish teenager Iga Swiatek who stopped her from progressing to the quarter-final.

The WTA world number one was thrashed by Swiatek in straight sets 6-1 6-2 without having a breakpoint rather conceded four out of the 14 breaks created by the Polish player.

Swiatek engaged the three-time finalist with slices and drop shots keeping her opponent on the baseline with backhand return shots. Simona was outclassed in the first set within 24 minutes whilst the Polish player claimed 30 winners during the match that lasted for an hour and eight minutes.

"I always love to play here, even when I was a junior," said Swiatek. "This was like a dream come true for me and I hop it is going to be longer."

The 19-year-old will be making her first quarter-final debut in Court Philippe and will be playing Italian ace, Martina Trevisan.
