French Open: Rafael Nadal Wins Title To Equal Grand Slam Record With Roger Federer


Rafael Nadal claimed a record-equalling win on his 20th Grand Slam title after defeating Novak Djokovic on his 13th final appearance in French Open.  

The Spaniard showed his brilliance on clay-court breezing through the first two set before facing resilience from Djokovic in the decider but succumbed to defeat on the defender champion's serve at 6-5. Nadal denied his rival four breakpoint advantage while he won six out of 15 break chances.  

"Honestly, I don't think about the 20th and equalling Roger, for me, it is just a Roland Garros victory," said Nada afterward. "I have spent most of the most important moment in my career here."

Top-seeded player, Djokovic, sustained a brutal loss to the Spaniard in straight sets 6-0 6-2 7-5 on his fifth final appearance. Nadal maintained his final match winning streak at Garros Roland on his 13th title win.

The Serb has not lost a complete match this season until the final match Garros Roland and was denied his fifth title of the season by the second-seeded player. 

Nadal defiled the odds of playing in blistering cold weather on clay-court - a condition that was forced out clay-court season du to the coronavirus pandemic - yet he played through the tournament without dropping a set for the fourth time in Garros Roland. 

After winning his 20th Grand Slam title, Nadal leveled with Swiss ace Roger Federer on men's all-time biggest Grand Slam title.
