French Open: Rafael Nadal Beats Diego Schwartzman To Reach Record 13th Final In Garros Roland
Diego Schwartzman could not stop Rafael Nadal from reaching his 13th French Open final and was knocked out in the semi-final by the second seed.
Nadal holds a milestone all-time record of 12 title wins in Garros Roland and a record of 13 semi-finals unbeaten run at the tournament. Having reached the final without dropping a set, he has also kept a clean sheet through to reaching the final.
The Spaniard raced through the first two sets in the semi-final against the 12th seeded-player and was held to a tiebreak in the decider which he won to outlast the Argentine by claiming straight seven points. He wrapped up the match in three sets 6-3 6-3 7-6(0).
The match that lasted for over three hours witnessed strong forehand play from both players. Schwartzman was fired up in the decider against the 12-time champion who later came back strongly after battling through deuces to lead by 6-5 before winning the tiebreak.
Speaking on his victory, Nadal admitted he had a tough game against Schwartzman, yet was glad he won and "happy with the way he played" in the semi-final.
Nadal is bidding for an all-time record-equalling of 20 Grand Slam titles with his Swiss rival Roger Federer, and he will play against either Novak Djokovic or Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final.
