Edison Cavani's Signing To Manchester United And Team's Failing Defense

Edison Cavani, a former Paris Saint Germain striker, has just completed his transfer to Manchester United as a free agent in a year-long deal with an option for an extension, but what impact would that make on Red Devils' disastrous performance?

It is fair to state that United signed a new left-back Alex Telles from FC Porto for £13.5million, a contract that will last for four years. The deal was struck the day after their humiliating 6-1 home loss to Tottenham Hostpur. The Brazilian is deemed to the qualities that will help salvage the situation.

United was a ghost of itself playing against Spurs that treated them like a struggling Premier League club by the manner they seemed like terrifying-figures before Reds' defenders, who committed errors repeatedly such that was unlike what you would expect of professional footballers. Spurs could not help but punished them for that at every instance they did.

The goal margin could be blamed on the red-carding of Anthony Martial's in the first-half that rendered the team dead on the attack, but that might sound like an excuse because the Frenchman's frustration over the team's poor performance early in the game got him in the mess for hitting Erik Lamela in the face.

However, the club might have just made a good decision on signing the Uruguayan considering his experience and his scoring capabilities may be one good quality United are to enjoy on his arrival.

In terms of age, Cavani, 33, can be said to be one that is in his later days in the sport compared to the team's youthful attackers, nonetheless has a scoring average of 19 goals per season during his seven years spell at PSG and average 26 goals during his three-season reign at Napoli.

Though he had just three appearances in the course of PSG's first Champions League final appearance last term, he yet had a scoring milestone of 200 goals in 301 appearances in all competitions and decorated with silverware including six Ligue 1 titles.
