Champions League: Liverpool Beat Midtjylland Despite Injury Blow
Liverpool maintained a clean sheet to claim the top spot of Group D after beating Midtjylland 2-0 at Anfield and stay two-point clear of closest rivals, Atalanta - Reds' trio attacker Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, and Roberto Firmino came in as subs in the second half.
Reds who had Virgin van Dijk ruled out of the game over an ACL injury, suffered another injury blow as Fabinho was subbed with Rhys Williams over an injury that is suspected to be hamstring.
It was not the best game for the defending champions, who had to deal with losing their key defenders to injuries and had played through a goalless half before Xherdan Shaqiri let a through pass to Diogo Jota for a tap to take in the net to take the lead after the break.
Mohamed Salah secured the game for the side in injury time, converting a penalty after being dropped in the box by the Danish side's left-back Paulinho. The opponent had just a single shot at the target and was threatening enough from attacking midfielder Evander to cause a scare for Reds.
Jota's goal was Reds' 10,000th goal in all competitions through their 125 years history. The Premier League side now leads the group by six points followed by Atalanta with four points.
