Champions League: Ajax Hand Victory To Liverpool With Own Goal
Liverpool's opening game win was not the regular victory that you would expect from defending champions as they were seemingly gifted the victory by AFC Ajax after a defensive error by Nicolas Taglifico.
Reds have not been having the game win they coveted for two straight games having lost 7-2 to Aston Villa and later drew 2-2 against Everton in the domestic league over the weekend. However, the winless run ended in the Champions League in a 1-0 win over the Dutch side.
Ajax had fair opportunities during the game in the absence of Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk, they secured the victory regardless when Taglifico kicked in Sadio Mane's cross in the 35th minute.
The absence of Reds' Belgian defender was glaring as the Dutch hosts were close to getting a goal from Dusan Talic's lob but defensive midfielder Fabinho cleared out the ball with an acrobatic kick on the touchline.
Making the away with the victory did not come easy, and the Dutch side proved to be the better side by exploiting the defensive weakness of the Premier Champions. However, Adrian proved to a fair deputy for Reds' number one goalkeeper Allison.
