Tuscan Grand Prix: Lewis Hamilton Claims 90th Victory Despite Chaotic Race In Mugello
Lewis Hamilton defiled the chaotic start at Tuscan Grand Prix to claim an inaugural victory for his career 90th wins as Mercedes maintained race dominance in a one-two finish whilst Max Verstappen crashed out of the race.
The six-time champion narrowed retired Ferrari driver Michael Schumacher lead in all-time biggest F1 race win to one. Hamilton dominated the race through despite second red flagging that stopped that 10 minutes when Lance Stroll lost control over punctured tires.
Valterri Bottas finished second but was 4.880seconds later than Hamilton who led the standings to extend his lead by 55 points (190) over him and Red Bull's Alexander Albon made an inaugural third place in Mugello for his first career podium appearance.
The Finn driver had first sped by Hamilton before he dropped again behind the Briton after the second restart and both drivers disappeared into the distance. Bottas later got his front tires excessive worn out whilst Hamilton paced on ahead.
Despite the victory, Hamilton described the race as one that seemed as "three races in one day", nonetheless, he delivered in 2:19:35.060 sec for a historic win.
"That was definitely one of the craziest races I've had," said Hamilton in admission. "It was like three races in one day. It was incredibly tough."
Renault's Daniel Ricciardo made the top 5 for the second time after Belgian Grand Prix as the Australian finished fourth ahead of Racing Point's Sergio Perez. British driver for McLaren Lando Norris finished sixth.
