Sebastian Vettel Joins Aston Martin From 2021 Season


Aston Martin has confirmed Sebastian Vettel as their newly-signed driver for the 2021 season and will be replacing Sergio Perez who will be leaving the racing team at the end of this season. 

Sebastian has had a frustrating season with Ferrari that he will be leaving at the end of the season for the team's new driver Carlos Sainz. The German struggled at the Italian Grand Prix final dropping of the race over mechanical issue likewise his teammate Charles Leclerc.

The four-time F1 champion whose future has been in the balance announced the new deal signed with Aston Martin which will take over the grid from Racing Point commencing from next season. The 33-year-old said upon securing the move to a new team, "I am pleased to finally share this exciting news about my future. I'm extremely proud to say that I will become an Aston Martin driver in 2021."

Racing Point was taken over by the British carmaker in £182million by Canadian business and co-owner Lawrence Stroll in January. The rebranding of the team will take effect from next season. 

He continued: "I have been impressed with the results the team has achieved this year and I believe the future looks even brighter. The energy and commitment of Lawrence to the sport is inspiring and I believe we can build something very special together."

Last weekend, Ferrari had a disappointing race in the qualifying as both drivers Sebastian and Leclerc could not qualify in the top 10 which was the team's first time in Monza since 1984. 

Racing Point Principal and CEO Otmar Szafnauer has confidence in the German driver and trusts him to deliver being "a proven champion" that can inspire the team to win races. 

"On Saturday and Sunday afternoon, Sebastian is one of the best in the world, and I can't think of a better driver to help take us into this new era," Otmar added.
