Premier League: Son Heung-Min Leads Scoring As Spurs Big Win Against Southampton
Son Heung-Min struck in four goals in a thrilling comeback to secure victory for Tottenham in their first game win of the season by 5-2 against Southampton.
Newly-signed striker Gareth Bale did not make his debut during this game, however, the brilliant combination of Harry Kane and Son at the front was up to the task to snatch victory for the team in a comeback that eroded Saints' lead.
Kane inspired the four thrilling goals scored by the attacking midfielder, Son, and he wrapped up the scoring streak with the winning goal from a rebound.
Danny Ings' opening goal for Saints was quickly eclipsed by Spurs with Son's equalizer on the brink of halftime and he doubled the scoring putting the side in the lead in just two minutes after the break.
Deep into the second half, the Japanese ace tripled the scoring with a clinical finish from close range for a hat-trick following a fast break inspired by Kane. Seven minutes later, Kane created another break with a cross-field pass. Son picked up the pass and lashed in the ball with a left-footed shot.
After Kane had netted the fifth goal giving Spurs a comfortable lead with seven minutes remaining to play, Saints got a consolation goal when Matt Doherty committed a handball offense in the box and Danny Ings converted the spot-kick for his second goal.
This is the first time since 2003 that a player will assist in scoring a hat-trick by another player in a single game. The last time was Thierry Henry assisting Freddie Ljungberg scoring a hat-trick against Sunderland.
However, the four-assist benchmark set at Tottenham by Kane in a single game after Emmanuel Adebayor in Tottenham 5-0 win against Newcastle in 2012.
