Premier League: Sadio Mane Starts Off With Hattrick For Liverpool Against Leeds United

Newly-promoted Leed United proved to be resilient against Liverpool but they were yet defeated with Mo Sallah opening the season with a hattrick in a 4-3 loss to the defending champions. Reds remained unbeaten in 60 league games.

Sallah converted two penalties to ensure victory for his team against Leeds that will not back down as both sides scored five goals in the first half with Liverpool in the lead. The goal tallies could have been wider but Sadio Mane's goal from 30-yard was ruled out for an offside position.

Early into the game, the Egyptian forward opened the scoring converting a penalty drawn for a handball offense committed by Robin Koch in the box. Minutes later, Leeds responded with an equalizer with a superb finish by Kalvin Philips.

Virgil van Dijk restored the team's lead with a header following a corner but committed a defensive error that resulted in an equalizer by Patrick Bamford. Sallah put Liverpool in the lead again smacking home a left-footed following a free-kick.

Reds had multiple scoring chances in the second even had Trent-Alexander-Arnold's own goal for offside position of Leeds' Jack Harrison before Mateusz Klich. Sallah eventually sealed the victory for Liverpool converting the penalty drawn by Rodrigo for a rough tackle on Fabinho late into the game.

Liverpool's defense suffered a number of flops that paved the way to the opponents' easy penetrations and goal-scoring but their doggedness to win kept their fighting spirit alive which eventually pay off.

However, the impressive performance put up against the defending champions scoring three goals in their first game is the first witnessed from a newly-promoted against reigning champions since 2008 when Hull City played 4-3 against Manchester United.
