Premier League: Manchester City's Opening Home Game Against Leicester Is A Nightmare
What a game it was for Manchester City? Just what could not have been expected that Jamies Vardy would wreck Pep Guardiola's side in such a manner he did on Sunday.
Leicester City did the unexcepted to Citizens by claiming a humbling 5-2 victory at Etihad Stadium that saw Jamie Vardy leading Foxes in a comeback by scoring a hat-trick to wipe off Citizens' lead from Riyad Mahrez's early goal in the 4th minutes.
Citizens set themselves off for defeat by committing three needless penalties to hand their opponents the victory, however, Mhrez's opener was such a sensational volley from inside the box following a corner.
Vardy's equalizer was from a penalty he drew when Kyle Walker tripped him in the box but his second goal was such a sensational finish with a back-flick from Timothy Castagne's cross. Four minutes later, he converted another penalty needlessly committed by Eric Gracias for a hat-trick.
The nightmare was not allover for Citizens as James Maddison curled home a 19-yard shot before Mendy tripped Maddison in the box for the third penalty which Youri Tielemans successfully scored with two minutes remaining.
Meanwhile, in between Maddison and Tielemans' goal was Nathan Ake's header for the Citizens' second goal following a corner.
In Guardiola's career, his men's defeat to Foxes happened to be his second season-opening home game loss since 2011 when Barcelona 2-0 loss to Hercules. Never before has a player scored two hat-tricks against a Guardiola-led team in his career.
Also, Manchester City are the first team in the league to concede three penalties in a single game since 2014 while Leicester are the first side to score all three penalties.
