Premier League: Bruno Fernandes Savaged Thrilling Injury-Time Penalty For Man. United Victory Against Brighton
Manchester United seized an injury-time thriller to secure a 3-2 away victory against Brighton & Hove, which was delivered to the team by Bruno Fernandes by converting a penalty on the brink of full time.
The 10-minute long added time could have ended in a draw against United who came from behind to claim their second victory, but it was a product of Neal Maupay who committed a handball offense in the box dead into the injury time. Fernandes savaged the opportunity to United's advantage.
Meanwhile, Fernandes gave away a spot-kick to Brighton for a rough tackle on Tariq Lamptey, leading to the opening goal by Maupay late, and three minutes later, Brighton's Lewis Gunk defensive flop gifted away an equalizer to United by deflecting in Nemanja Matic's pass following a free-kick taking by Fernandes.
Super composed Marcus Rashford seized a fast break inspired by Fernandes and strode straight away into the box, comfortably dribbled four men in the box before lashing the ball home. Brighton refused to slow down on seeking an equalizer until Solly March caught United's defensive sleeping and headed home Jahanbaskh's cross for an equalizer.
Just while the game was expected to end in a draw, Fernandes took what was supposed to be the last free-kick of the game, and Harry Maguire got his head to the ball but Maupay was caught committing a handball offense in flight by the VAR, and Fernandes converted the spot-kick to hand United the thrilling victory in 90th+10mins.
United's Portuguese midfielder, Fernandes, played a significant role in the team outclassing Brighton, and Rashford's goal was a sensational display of skill. That was not to mention that United had two goals ruled out for an offside position.
Compared to their disappointing 3-1 loss to Crystal Palace last weekend, United have regained their better side only that the defense was just opened enough for the hosts to claim an avoidable equalizer that could have saved them from last-minute pressure.
