Nicki Minaj To Face Trail Over "Sorry" As Judge Gives Rapper Thumbs Up

Nicki Minaj is to stand trial for an alleged infringement lawsuit filed against her by another artist for the track "Sorry" featuring Nas. Tracy Chapman is the complaint who has accused Nicki of sampling her song "Baby Can I Hold You" in the making of the track in the suit.

Chapman claimed the track which was released on the eve of her fourth album 'Queen' was done on purpose without her approval despite ripping off the original song. She argued Nicki was aware of what she was doing.

However, the court threw its weight behind Nicki as Judge Philip who presides over the case described what the female rapper did as "fair use of copyright" which can help further creativity in music and art.

"A ruling uprooting these common practices would limit creativity and stifle innovation within the music industry," Philip writes in a statement. "This is contrary to Copyright Law's primary goal of promoting  the arts for the public good."

Nonetheless, the rapper who is currently pregnant with her first child with her husband Kenneth will yet stand trial at the court over the lawsuit.
