Manchester City's Kevin de Bruyne Named PFA Player of the Season
Belgian international and Manchester City player Kevin de Bruyne has been unveiled as the PFA player of the season on Monday.
Citizens were outclassed by Liverpool in the pursuit of the Premier League title last season, yet the attacking midfielder was recognized for having the most assists (20) during the campaign which was a record-equalling feat to that previously set in a single season by Thierry Henry at Arsenal.
"It's a big honour, I think, to be voted by your colleagues, your competitors from other teams, who you always play against on the field and they vote for you for best player. It's amazing," PFA quoted the player as saying in a tweet.
Amongst players that contended for the prize against the Belgian was Raheem Sterling, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Sadio Mane, and Virgil van Dijk.
"We are so proud of Kevin," Pep Guardiola said in praise of the player. "Kevin is the first to receive this prestigious award and this recognition is also tribute to all the fantastic players who have come before him. It's an outstanding achievement."
