Italian Open: Novak Djokovic Races Past Diego Schwatzmann To Win 36th Masters 1000
Novak Djokovic becomes the all-time biggest winner of ATP Masters 1000 after winning his 36th Masters 1000 at the Italian Open on Monday.
Diego Schwartzmann lost in straight sets 7-5, 6-3 to the Serb on his 10th final appearance at the competition, and that made him the oldest champion in Rome.
The topped seeded played through the tournament with dropping a set and has now won 32 in all 32 set match played this season - he was disqualified from the US Open over hitting the ball at an official.
Djokovic praised the Argentine for the early scare caused him in the opening set and also acknowledge he was a man to beat at the tournament having eliminated Rafael Nadal and Denis Shapovalov.
"It was a great week," he added. "A very challenging week. I don't think I played my best tennis throughout the entire week, but I think I found my best tennis when I needed it the most."
