French Open: Serena Williams Retires, Might Ruling Out Playing This Year

Former French Open champion, Serena Willian, has withdrawn from the tournament over an Achilles injury on day four of the competition.

Serena was already in the second round and was meant to play Tsvetana Pironkova in the bid of her fourth Garros Roland title which in effect would have been a record-tying of 24th Gram Slam title with Margaret Court.

"I have been struggling to walk si that's a telltale sign that I should try to recover," she revealed speaking at a press conference. "Achilles is an injury you don't want to play with."

She added the injury might require that she stayed away from any active sporting activities and just sit down and do nothing because she does not want it to get worse.

According to the three-time champion, she picked up the injury during Monday's opening match against her compatriot Kristie Ahn when she started limping in the second set.

"I'm not sure I will play another tournament this year," she continued. "It is not an acute injury. It is a nagging injury. I ran into bad timing and bad luck really."

Serena survived an opening set scare from his Kristie in the opening match before outclassing her in straight sets 7-6(7-2) 6-0 on Phillipe Cartier Court.
