Cristiano Ronaldo Hits Record-Setting 100th International Goal
Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo has become the first European player ever to have a record of 100 international goals having led Portugal to beat 2-0 Sweden in the Nations League match.
Coming into the game, Ronaldo already had a record of 99 international goals and he scored two superb goals for Portugal during the game to bring his international goal tally to 101
Sweden should have conceded more goals than they did from the five-time Ballon d'Or winner who had a couple of chances that he was just near converting but thanks to their goalkeeper Robin Olsen who denied him twice from close range.
The red carding of Gustav Svensson for his rough challenge on Joao Moutinho drew a free-kick for Ronaldo to strike home on the brink of halftime and he followed up with the second goal curling home a right-footed shot from the edge of the 18-yard box.
Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes was also near adding one to the scoring streak but struck the ball to clip the crossbar when Pepe set him up with a cross for a strike inside the box.
In the previous match, Ronaldo could not get a goal for the team against Croatia which they won by 4-1, however, he compensated for that by leading the team he captains to victory on Tuesday.
By the way, the 35-year-old leads in the all-time highest goalscorer in the Champions League with 130 goals followed by Barcelona forward Lionel Messi with 115 goals.
Portugal leads in the table but ties on point with France by six points in the Nations League Group C and will play against Sweden in their next match.
