Arsenal Goalkeeper Signs For Aston Villa
Goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez brought his long-term spell at Arsenal to an end to join another Premier League side Aston Villa in a four-year contract completed on Wednesday.
Martinez ended his 10-year reign at the club joined first as a junior team player before his promotion to the senior team under former head coach Arsene Wenger. He joined Villa reportedly for £17million.
Villa Manager Dean Smith revealed in a statement that they have been monitoring the Argentine's performance at Arsenal and were impressed by winning trophies with the team last season that ended their three years title- drought under Mikel Arteta.
Smith promised the 28-year-old will for long term be a "key player of the club" considering that having to find a "top-class goalkeeper who hasn't yet reached their peak age" like him is hard to come by.
Martinez spent most of his seasons at Arsenal on loan but on his return from a loan spell at Reading in 2019, won the team the FA Cup and the Community Shield last season with Arsenal.
