Spanish Grand Prix Qualifying: Lewis Hamilton Takes Pole
Mercedes duo will be starting in front of the grid in the final on Sunday as Lewis Hamilton claimed the pole in the team's one-two lead of the Spanish Grand Prix qualifying.
Hamilton managed to edge out Valtteri Bottas by 0.059seconds to emerge as the fastest for the 92nd pole position of his F1 career.
Red Bull's Max Verstappen will start in the third row for the first time in Spain, just a week after winning his first race of the season at the 70th F1 anniversary Grand Prix.
Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel had yet a disappointing qualifying for missing out on Q3 after being pipped by Lando Norris in Q2 and dropped down to the elimination zone in 11th position. Meanwhile his teammate Charles Leclerc will start in P9 on Sunday.
The six-time champion in a statement commended the Red Bull team for putting up a strong contest against his team describing their car as being "superfast". He extended his gratitude to the Mercedes team for winning the pole attributing their success to having a good "first lap" which he said, "did the job thankfully."
Hamilton added, "I was here with the guy until 10pm last night looking through the details, and seeing where we can get better for the race."
