Spanish Grand Prix: Lewis Hamilton Wins To Set New Record For Most Podiums

Lewis Hamilton has emerged as the Spanish Grand Prix champion in a dominating race he controlled to win and extended his career podium position to 156th for all-time most podium trailed by retired former world champion Michael Schumacher (155).

The six-time champion was followed in second place by Red Bull Max Verstappen whose car pace has been a concern for Mercedes and the team boss, Toto Wolff, ahead of the final.

Despite starting the race in P3, Max held off Valtteri Bottas who was trailing Hamilton at Lap 45 before the Dutch sped by him to reclaim the spot in Lap 49 and maintained the chase on the Briton through the remaining race to emerge as the second-fastest in +24.177 sec.

Hamilton in his speech after the race he revealed that he managed through the last lap with tires problem which did not really have much impact on his pace as he sped on to clinch the victory in 1:31:45.279s.

"I'm just in a daze out there...I felt really good, it was a fantastic effort from the team," said Hamilton. "And it was a real surprise, because we had this problem with the tyres. I didn't even know it was the last lap at the end."

Ferrari's Charles Leclerc retired from the race after his car spun and suffered engine failure in Lap 41.  Leclerc teammate Sebastian Vettel rode on to finish in seventh place - his best performance this season. The German failed to make Q3 at the qualifying session after dropping below the top 10 in Q2.

"To split them {the Merdeces duo] today was very good for us," said Max. "We clearly didn't have the pace like Lewis. The start was crucial, once I got that past Valtteri, I just concentrated on my pace."

Racing Point's Sergio Perez despite bagging five-point penalty, finished behind his teammate Lando Stroll in the fifth position followed by McLaren Carlos Sainz while his teammate and British driver Lando Norris finished in the tenth position.
