Nick Kyrgios Withdraws From US Open
Australian tennis ace Nick Kyrgios has announced his withdrawal from the US Open. He blamed his decision that "hurt" him deep down on the coronavirus pandemic which has claimed a lot of lives.
Nick made his withdrawal known to the public in a video update via his official Twitter account on Friday and mentioned that he has no issues with the tournament organizers, USTA but this is basically for his concern for the lives lost to the pandemic.
"I will not be playing this year at the US Open," he announced. "It hurts me at my core...But I'm sitting out for the people, for my Aussies, for the hundreds of thousands of Americans who lost their lives, for all of you."
The Citi Open defending champion also reached out to other players asking them to take into consideration "health and safety" measures required in mitigating the spread of the virus rather than focusing on improving their rankings.
He added, "Let's take a breath here and remember what's important, which is health and safety as a community. We can rebuild our sport and the economy, but we can never recover lives lost."
