Laurence Fishburne Will Not Return For The Matrix 4

Laurence Fishburne, a noticeable character in The Matrix franchise, will be missed in the upcoming fourth entry, meanwhile, other casts like Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss will be reprising their role.  

Toby Emmerich, Warner Bros. chairman, confirmed in a statement in September, that the sci-fi film will be happening after 16 years hiatus with Lana Wachowski as the scriptwriter and director. However, there was mention of Fishburne which of somewhat suggested he might not have the role again. 

In an interview with New York Magazine, Fishburne confirmed what might have been guessed about him missing in the forthcoming entry to be true as he was not asked by the studio to return alongside other casts. Nevertheless, he wishes the best for Lana Wachowski and the crew. 

Fishburne was portrayed as the character Morpheus in the film and it was he who initiated and mentored Keanu Reeves (Neo) in the Matrix trilogy. In the previous entries, Fishburne did reprise the role as the enigmatic leader of the group.
