Juventus Are Trying To Sell Cristiano Ronaldo To Barcelona
Juventus are reportedly offering their star player Cristiano Ronaldo to Barcelona which is home to his career rival Lionel Messi. The rumoured offer to the Spaniards might see both players play together for the first time in their careers.
Just last weekend, Juve ousted their former manager Maurizio Sarri just hours after their elimination from the Champions League by Lyon. Sarri was later replaced by Andreas Pirlo as the new head coach. However, they need to sell Ronaldo arose from the need to offload his astronomical annual salary.
Ronaldo's salary is miles away from that of any of his team-mates (£28m/annum) and Juve are beginning to feel the weight of that load of their shoulders following the coronavirus pandemic lockdown. Thus, they deemed it best to offer him to Barcelona as a way to get him off their payroll according to a reporter Guillem Balague.
Balague told the BBC 5 Live Sport that it is however not certain if the Catalan side can really afford a player like Ronaldo, nonetheless, offers have been made in a wide spectrum.
"He's been offered everywhere, including Barcelona," said Balague. "I'm not sure if they can get rid of him easily with the kind of money he earns. Who is going to pay that kind of money?"
Mind you, Barca are in need of a viable striker to replace aging Luiz Suarez whom they intend to replace with Inter Milan forward Lautaro Martinez. Talks for the Argentine's transfer is already on-going between the two clubs.
Just as Ronaldo, Messi is equally as expensive as the Portuguese player as he is paid £646,000 on a weekly basis. That amount makes him the highest-paid player.
