Champions League: Bayern Munich Humiliate Barcelona To Guarantee Qualification For Semi-finals
Barcelona have been humiliated by Bayern Munich who took turns scoring to beat them 8-2 at home with the Spaniards' outcast and loanee Philippe Coutinho and Thomas Muller scoring twice.
The massive defeat might have just sealed Barce's exit from the competition in the quarter-final as they were clearly outclassed by the Germans who ousted Chelsea to reach the quarter-finals.
Though Bayern opened the scoring very early into the game from Muller's effort, Barcelona got a gifted equalizer from David Alaba's own goal three minutes later.
Lionel Messi was pocketed by the Germans who scored four goals in both halves of the game whilst the only goal the Spaniards scored except Alaba's was by Luis Suarez to narrow the team's deficit by 4-2 on their return from break.
Notwithstanding, Messi and Suarez did on some occasions found their ways into the Germans defense and repeatedly put Manuel Neuer to the test. After the Germans goalie denied Suarez's attempt at the goal, Messi struck a shot that clipped the post.
Whilst Messi and his teammate Suarez struggled to get a goal, Robert Lewandowski scored the sixth goal the goal en route the victory, extending his goal tally in the Champions League to 14 and Coutinho netted twice for his third goal in the competition for Bayern Munich.
Never before in the Champions League has a team defeated its counterparts in the knockout stages by eight goals since 1990/91 when Real Madrid beat FC Wacker Innsbruck 9-1.
