Belgian GP Qualifying: Lewis Hamilton Claims 93rd Pole
Lewis Hamilton has pushed his pole dominance to an all-time highest record of 93 at the Belgian Grand Prix qualifier as the Mercedes team prepares to end their three years race-win drought at the final in Spa -Francorchamps circuit on Sunday.
Ferrari's woe continued as both Sebastian Vettel and Charles Leclerc will be starting in P14 and P13 respectively, meanwhile, Red Bull remained impressive with Max Verstappen claiming the third position behind Mercedes' Valtteri Bottas.
The Finn driver, Bottas, gave a good chase at his teammate, Hamilton, yet the Briton controlled the pace through to the clinched the fastest pace in the qualifier in 1:41.252 seconds. Bottas nipped the Red Bull driver to clinched the second-fastest in +0.15seconds.
The six-time world champions would afterward dedicate his pole to the deceased American film actor Chadwick Boseman, who passed away over a protracted illness diagnosed to be colon cancer.
"Today's a really important pole for me because I woke up to the saddest news of Chadwick passing away," said the pole winner. "It's been such a heavy year, I think, for all of us and that news really broke me."
