Barcelona Appoint Former Head Coach Ronald Koeman As New Manager
Former Barcelona head coach Ronald Koeman has been named as the club's new manager just about 48 hours after Quiqen Setien was sacked following their 8-2 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League Last 8.
Koeman replaced predecessor in a two-year deal that marked his return to the club after 25 years which won four La Liga, European Cup and European Super Cup with.
The 57-year-old told the Dutch FA in a statement on its official website that, "Everyone knows that Barcelona is my dream club. It feels very special to me to be able to become a coach there."
Barcelona appointed the ousted manager, Quiqen, in January before dismissing him after losing this season's La Liga title defense to their rivals Real Madrid and also led the club to their worst defeat in history.
Speaking on the appointment of the Dutch manager, Josep Maria Bartomeu explained that Koeman is a coach well known to them and has a good understanding of the club and its philosophy.
"If everything good right, the new coach will start working in the next few days," said Bartomeu. "He will be able to push his team forward in a new project. We know him well. We know how he thinks and acts after studying the teams he has coached."
