Arsenal: Freddie Ljungberg Steps Down As Assistant Manager

 


Freddie Ljungberg has stepped down of his coaching role as Mikel Arteta's assistance manager at Arsenal on Saturday.

The 43-year-old handed over head coach role to Arteta after he was promoted as the club's interim manager on the dismissal of Unai Emery in November. He continued his role as an assistant under Arteta afterward. 

"I have decided to leave my first-team assistant coaching role at Arsenal to progress my management experience," Ljungberg announced. "I have been involved with this club on and off since 1998 and am grateful for all the opportunities they have given me both as a player and as a coach."

Ljungberg who was a footballer at the club started his senior team coaching career at Bundesliga side VFL Wolfsburg as an assistant for a season He returned to Arsenal after a season as the club's U23 head coach and later served as an assistant under former manager Unai.
